The title sequence produced for Alan Carr's NYE show this year (2011). Jump Design & Direction were asked to revist the title sequence for Absolutley Fabulous which was coming back to UK television screens for three special episodes. Two are being shown over the Christmas period, and the final episode will be broadcast to coincide with the London 2012 Olympics.

These titles are slightly revamped from the previous incarnation. Whilst the concept is the same (originally designed by Jump's Keith Livingstone), the colours and typography have been developed to have a more contemporary feel. It's also HD now - so it was re-animated from scratch so all the graphics look lovely and sharp.

Client: BBC
Production Company: Jump Design & Direction
Producer for BBC: Justin Davies
Original Title Design: Keith Livingstone
Creative Direction: Russell Hilliard
Animation: Laura Hulme

First broadcast on the BBC on 25th December 2011

I promise, this was a long time before Angry Birds....One day, I was doodling and drew a furious looking chicken drumstick. He made me laugh - so I gave him a bunch of friends.

Here are some of the original sketches. I like the Yorkshire Pudding (image 2), I wonder why he never made it into full colour?

The project was really only done to get me back into drawing again. Computers have been distracting me for quite a long time...

I worked with the top chaps over at Reel Nice, making them some introductory graphics for a series of lifestyle films they were producing for Puma.

The films were commissioned by Puma as an in-house tool to explore different groups of potential Puma consumers.

I can't show you the finished films here, but I can show you the introduction graphics I made for them. The white coloured graphics didn't get used in the end, with Puma instead opting for the black colour way and a simpler animation. Despite the white versions being too far off brand for Puma, I still prefer them ;)

The white versions...

On brand, with a pared down animation....

ITV - Pixie Lott Holograms/Red or Black

I've recently been working on the package graphics for ITV's 'Red or Black' during my time at Jump Design & Direction. There was a vast amount of graphics to produce, and I got to pick up some valuable project management skills. This one was the mother of multi-tasking projects!

As part of the graphics package we were asked to collaborate with Musion to produce some Pixie Lott 'Holograms' as part of the Red or Black gameplay.

After a live performance in the studio (see below), Pixie was asked to choose a version of herself to open a locket and reveal the colour of butterflies inside - thus providing an outcome for the contestants.

Musion filmed Pixie performing, and I got to go along and oversee the sections concerning the gameplay. We had to make an introduction segment, a loop containing particle effects, a transition off effect and the butterflies themselves.

This lineup clip is only an example of what was projected on the night, as the outcomes had to be 100% random. Each Pixie was projected as a 'hologram' individually by Ionoco, and each one had the option of Red or Black butterflies inside her locket. No one knew which colour version of herself Pixie was going to choose until she called it!

This was a surprisingly complex segment of the show to produce, and it involved a wide range of very talented and hardworking people, a film shoot, and some cutting edge technology to get right!

Here's a lovely project I was animator for, whilst working at Jump Design & Direction.

Working with Senior Designer, Keith Livingstone, I animated a 30 second title sequence based on his designs and animatics.

I also had the opportunity to create additional designs for some of the scenes, based on the textured and colourful illustrated look that Keith had devised.

The titles and break bumpers were on air on Channel 4 from August 27th 2011 though until 4th September 2011.

Here is the animation I worked on with the wonderful Fred & Eric and their band of merry collaborators. Here's the lowdown on the project, in Fred & Eric's own words....

"Fred & Eric have created an animation for Save The Children's breaking GAVI campaign to help save 4 million lives in 4 hours, at the global vaccines summit in June.

Fred & Eric were briefed to design and create an animation to highlight the critical facts of the campaign. The combination of illustration, stop-frame animation, video footage and After Effects animation was used to create a standout tactile piece; a stirring call to action that will be played online, as time before the summit ticks down."

Produced by Fred & Eric in collaboration with:
Laura Hulme: After Effects Animation
Andy Martin: After Effects Animation
Veranda McNally: Stop-frame animation
Andrew Meredith: Lighting & camera
Music: Paul Mottram
Music Mix: Ben Ash
